Inside Alconbury's nuclear bunker

Urban&Civic’s Alconbury Weald has been touted as the UK’s largest development. The £1.5bn creation of a new village in Cambridgeshire will see 6,500 new homes and more than 3m sq ft of government-backed Enterprise Zone, just outside of Huntingdon.

Construction of the first phase including 900 homes, a new business district and the first primary school kicked off in 2015. And now Urban&Civic is upping its game, with a new application for a further 1,000 homes and a secondary school currently out for public consultation.

EG took a guided-tour of the 1,425-acre site stretching across the former RAF airfield and neighbouring farmland, with Urban&Civic’s chief executive Nigel Hugill.
